Visit Long DueA Poem by Cody Jeremy ThompsonI am ten years too late with this poem but to be fair eight year old me wasn't that good with words
Rain was pouring this whole week,
But there was no sound of tires, Splashing the wet mud, Nor your always smiling face leaving the car. Late winter ended, As did your visits. The undisturbed mud, Made it's way into the spring sun. It might be just me but the spring isn't as sunny, As the one you spent in a hospital bed, Bathing in it's idyllic glow. I wonder if there's anybody in that bed now, And whether they are luckier than you. I don't stand before you now, To ask for advice, Or to confess anything, But because you haven't visited in a while. Don't worry, I understand. You've made friends with earth and marble. And that coffin,it seems, Will never loosen up it's embrace. The bell that escorted you is silent now. So am I,so is the earth and so are you. Only sound to be heard, Is the memories encrusted with time, Flowing on the warm spring wind. © 2017 Cody Jeremy ThompsonAuthor's Note
