Rough

Rough

A Poem by Coffee Lady

Your smile moves in and out of focus

What starts out in the forefront becomes scenery,

While details blossom

Through my kaleidoscope eyes

You threw me up against your wall

and dared me to come in

I could hear your heart beating through the concrete

Weakly, but consistently

I found a diamond

Covered in dirt

Not yet cut

Hardened by the pressure of the world

Good job, Coffee Lady. Solid imagery presentation. Nice imagery of the carnal nature of rite of passage to adulthood. We are all born equal, but the road to maturity trips us up with abuses, pitfalls, blind curves, washed-out bridges, etc. Most of the evils that befall us leer back at us forever from our rear-view mirror. Divine blessings, mercy, and forgiven stare back too -- like Christmas gifts, waiting for us hidden in trappings but dazzling in revelation.

i think this is exquisite ... a first hand being behind the eyes of someone abused ..a blow that stuns and brings stars shooting out in that kaleidoscope vision ... brilliant personifications with the wall and concrete says i! a real keeper here Coffee Lady! Welcome to the Cafe' ... i like your deliberate minimalist style ... strong story telling talents as well as imaging ... hope to see you around .. i have found this a great place to grow and share

Thank you for the review and for the warm welcome!
Not many can or will see past or underneath the discrepancies and shells that surround or enfold someone. But when there is a glimmer of something special, it doesn't escape their intuition.

An interesting poem.

Gee
I like to think I was a diamond that needed cleaning when my now wife met me back in 1991. If asked she might well say I was cubic zirconia and am still being cleaned and polished, this being her life's work.
Enjoyed reading you coffee lady.
