valya's story part 1A Story by cocosweetieA young woman bored of her monotonous small town life in Russia seeks out exciting adventures on the other side of the worldthe dancers on the screen moved in unison to the catchy ethnic music, their slender hips thumping in unison to the vibrant beats. their blonde hair stood out like sunny halos, contrasting with the matching colourful tube tops and micro shorts.Valya watched intently, one finger twirling a lock of her own light brown hair, foot tapping to the vibrant rhythm, humming softly along. the music video was as colourful and kitschy as all Bollywood movie songs were. Russian dancers, Valya knew, Russian girls just like her yet so different.
valya reluctantly got of the old sofa and switched off the tv. it was a freezing winter's day in the small town she lived in, and her evening shift at the local supermarket started in 40 minutes. it was a 20 minute walk there and Valya knew she'd never make it there in time if she didnt switch the TV off.
she hummed and tried pumping her hips like the dancers in the song as she walked to the tiny room she shared with her sister Anya. no one loved Bollywood in their town as much as Valya. She watched them obsessively, especially the songs, songs that made your blood rush and imagination go wild. at least for valya..other people, her friends, liked the south american soaps or MTV or better yet online movies.
valya put on light makeup. mascara, liner, gloss. her pale skin was doll like, her blue eyes alond and soulful. as always she envisioned Aishwarya, Rani and Katrina as she did her makeup. she had just turned 22 and had been working at the local supermarker for 6 months. it paid alright, better than the restaurant where she previously worked at and had to travel for 45 minutes to.
valya put on her coat and hurried out. she knew exactly how the next 5 hours would pass. the routine. the shoppers, the stacking of things, scanning and taking notes and giving change..
