Chapter 19: Wolf's Decision

Chapter 19: Wolf's Decision

A Chapter by Cocoacandy

After an hour or so, Wolf wandered back into the kitchen to find only Zena sitting at the table.

“So he’s already gone then?” Wolf asks quietly from the doorway.

After a pause, Zena sighs and then responds quietly, “Yep.  Sorry if you wanted to go with. I asked him to stay longer but he couldn’t risk it.  He has a lot of men out for him, you know…  But you can try and catch him. He left not long ago...”

“No. That’s alright. I was only half decided on staying.  Him being gone when I got in here just strengthened my decision to stay… if that’s ok with you, that is.” Wolf said slowly.

Zena nodded and stood; her cup of light cappuccino that had long ago ceased steaming held tightly in both hands.  She turned and strode slowly out of the room.  Wolf watched her leave, wondering if he had made the right decision or not.  Was it fair to her? After all, it didn’t seem that she had expected him in the first place.  He could tell that she was exhausted; though he was sure she would never admit it.

Her normally cheery expression was gone, and in its place was a lack of emotion.   Her emotionless face had the appearance of a china doll: drained, pale, fragile, and lost.

She hadn’t even bothered to change out of her pajamas that night before greeting Jaenes, which he knew wasn’t normal.  She was adorned in dark green silk shorts with black lace on the hem, which Wolf couldn’t help but follow with his eyes as she walked away.  Her top was a matching set with the shorts, a dark green tank top with thin lace straps and a black lace hem.  Wolf hadn’t noticed what she was wearing before then, but he couldn’t help but watch her as she left.  The look gave her an edgy, feminine aura, which he enjoyed, but it wasn’t her style, and it made him uneasy.

Wolf shook his head loose of his thoughts about her and poured himself a cup of coffee before sitting down at the table. He sat thinking for a long while about his decision, hoping he wouldn’t regret it in the end.

A nice, small addition to the story. I had a hunch that Wolf would choose to stay. Zena seems tired and annoyed, but I think deep down inside she's glad that he chose to stay. I'm interested to see how his next mission will go.

Other suggestions: none

A very good chapter. I like the emotion and description. Some decisions can be hard and leave you open for mistakes. I like the thoughts of Wolf. A excellent chapter. Thank you.
