Looking back

To that friend that left me for other friends...

Looking back on all we had,

I watch as the smiles crack

And the laughter fades.

We were always so good together,

Like two peas in a pod,

Jack and jill,

Hansel and Gretel.

 

Flipping through the memories,

A feeling of doubt slowly creeps through me.

Was it ALL fake?

Or just the important parts?

 

You act like you never knew me,

Like I was a plain stranger on the street.

How could you treat me this way,

After all that we’ve been through?

 

Those days when we had the other’s back,

Were the other’s comfort when something went wrong,

Tell me, do you not remember,

That song that was ours?

 

The bond that we shared,

So rare in our time,

Why did that faith break,

Like a small twig beneath foot?

 

Did you not think I was good enough,

Is that why you left me,

Like a stepping stone in your path,

never to look back?
