Angel in the ShadowsA Poem by George LovePart of my dark side
Angel in the Shadows
The dream again,
I woke with a fear
Sweat covering my body
Cold and dense,
Sticking me to my bedclothes
And chilling my soul to its core.
Would the Angel again guide me home?
It had so many times before.
I say it about my Angel for simpleness
It was either male or female
And followed the dream to its end.
Where do I land?
Upon which shore do I make this stand?
I know not what happens next
The Angel never told me
Yet in dark sweat I now lay
And yet near comes the light of day.
Shall it last one more night?
Can my soul stay fast this fight?
Or do I now look beyond
And enter into that ether world?
Am I ready for all to end?
Are you ready, the Angel’s last quest?
Lurking now in silence
They rest behind the cold, bright steel
Ready are they for me at last?
Was all life done in one great blast?
The shadows fall quickly away
Broken silence, alone and aghast.
Hello, says my Angel
Now is my time
The sweat does chill,
No warmth do I find
I float away beneath those wings
Looking down on my own pale flesh.
