What Service We?

What Service We?

A Poem by George Love
"

Random thoughts hit me at odd times

"

What Service We?

One day we stand to face all
Deeds of our past once hidden now shown
Where did we place our allegiance
And whom did we follow
Whose path were we blindly led
Or did we lead others?
Darkness or light,
Which path did we choose?
By whose rule
Shall each be measured?
Once all our works are placed to test
Which shall stand and which shall fail?
Did we fight a fight worthy to fight
Or simply fight for the sake of the fight?
Did we lift up those needing our hand
Or dip into that pot so grand?
What shall it be once time’s sand flies past?
To what did we pay homage?

A question we should all ask ourselves before it's too late.. before we fight we must know what we are fighting for... before we live we must know how we want to live. And when we look in the mirror at the end, can we look ourselves in the eye and wave goodbye? That's the test..

thought provoking, the kind of writing I love to read!

To something that is not what it is now! To something the forefathers bought forward for freedom, in the true sense of the word and where are we now? In a facist dictatorship, miles away from home, in a 1984 prediction, when will it end? When we pay homage to the real self! When we listen and follow higher concsiousness :)
Great work love!
As you see, you get the mind ticking lol xx

this poem reminds me of a Malcolm X quote....when he said "When A Man Stands for Nothing..falls for anything"

great piece.

Your pensive poem is cleverly written. This writing contains so much information on integrity, honesty, and who to believe in. I really enjoyed your words, making me think strongly...
"Did we fight a fight worthy to fight

Did we lift up those needing our hand
Or dip into that pot so grand? "
...Your poem makes me so glad I've got God to believe in. I don't know what others do when everything closes in on them, I shudder to think about it. Your words are an allegience in itself!

I love this, it makes you stop and think. Wonderfully penned. Excellent job.

It's pretty much a set of questions, but I'm wondering if they're merely rhetorical or if you really want to know? There's a slight of hand rhyme scheme which is nice. The only thing is that "grand" seems a bit archaic (though I know it was for the sake of "hand"). I think this poem would probably be a little more effective if it presented maybe a few more specifics? maybe. Anyhow, keep up the writing.

I like this! Reminds me of a haiku I wrote:

Barter for our souls
with the decisions we make.
Is our path so just?

'Which path did we choose?
By whose rule
Shall each be measured?' - A very good question!
