The Playful Dance

The Playful Dance

A Poem by George Love
"

Snow fall description

"

The Playful Dance

Lightly falling, you dance your slow dance
Gracefully, playfully you cover this earth
This blanket of wonder brings all to on age
As gather we close to hear the wise tales
Of times before you visited the fathers
Blankets of hope and blankets of death
Can all be found in one Nature’s breath?

Childlike you make us all inside
And giddily we frolic and leave our brief marks
Statues of you we stand as remembrance
Of times before and hopes of times to come
Brilliance and sparkly you brighten the dark night
Reflecting all light to render no secrets
Covering all blemishes till all looks the same
Roads and fields share in this light
Even death’s dark battlefield do you make bright.

Fleeting and easy you come to us now
Your path as clean as the winds blowing gusts
So soft now the dance you playfully perform
Your wonder of brilliance within and without
Can ever one heart be not turned
At the beauty you show and ask nothing returned?

Gracefully, silently, playfully, beautifully
You cover earth’s scars
And let her children Dance!

I think there are few things as beautiful as a fresh snowfall... and in this lovely write, you capture the essence of what I feel walking through the streets and forests, taking in the dancing flakes and the crunch underfoot. Even the ugliest things can be hidden, and your line "You cover Earth's scars" is very adept. I wish more people could see snow like you do... as bringing out that childlike sense of wonder, Mother Nature reminding us it is time to go outside and PLAY! Hot chocolate, anyone?

Just so many awesome lines in this poem. Love your ending. It sums it up nicely. The best I have read on snow.

Brings me back to my kid days, I remember falling head first off a trampoline into a foot or more of snow - lucky for me the snow caught me, heh. Wonderfully written, nicely done.

Great Write

Thank you for cooling me off! I'm in Florida and my air conditioning is broken tonight. Your flurry of words brings past events and precious thoughts to mind. I like how you wrote this with unique vision.....

Great vivid detail. My older brother married a Hawaian. This was many years ago, but I will never forget her reaction to our first huge snow storm. This poem brings back her image, and the childlike nature snow brings with it. There are so many lines in this, but this one lept out at me..
Blankets of hope and blankets of death

That is classic. Rain..
