Crash

Amanda Colina Price had just dropped her two young children off at her mother-in law's house for the day. Hillary and Valerie were very excited about their new home and the new lives they had started. The move to Texas had seemed to agree with the entire family. Her husband, Michael, had landed his dream job as a Texas Ranger and she had just accepted a position with Life Fight. She was looking forward her first day back to work as she drove up the ramp onto the freeway. She was to start orientation with Life Flight at 9:00am.
As she drove to her aging Buick station wagon in the heavy traffic headed into Galveston, she noticed the large black vehicle swerve into the median and abruptly accelerate. She didn't have time to react before she felt the impact as the heavy truck slammed into the rear quarter panel of her car.
For a second, the entire world went completely black as the heavy SUV slammed her smaller car into the air. She felt her car flip over and a second impact as the passenger's side of her car crashed into the guardrail. Her car continued to tumble and finally came to rest upside down in the opposite lane of traffic. Amanda could hear muffled sounds of tires squealing and the sound of other vehicles crashing as the SUV continued its deadly course.
As suddenly as it began, everything stopped. Amanda could hear sounds of people screaming and calling for help. Amanda tried to get free from her vehicle to offer assistance. She could tell from the sounds of those around her that there were several people who needed her help if she could only get to them. As she struggled to move, trying to release the shoulder harness that held her in place, she found she couldn't move. Slowly, she began to realize what had happened and why she could not move.
Her car was on her head and she was bleeding heavily from a large avulsion in her scalp. Instead of being able to help, Amanda realized that she was one of the victims needing assistance. As she tried to scream for help, blood flowed into her mouth. Amanda knew she was in deep trouble along with several other victims of this crash, but all she could do was concentrate on trying to stay awake and breathe.
