Fighting Back

Fighting Back

A Poem by George Love
"

Fighting back through depression and job burnout

"

Fighting Back

Reaching for hope
Where none exists
I grasp whatever straw I find
Grappling once with unbridled force
I force my way into daylight
Beat back the dark horse
To embrace a new day
Under my feet I stamp
Its ugly head
As it tries once more
To control my very breath
And now day breaks
And into new light
Its head I see slithering away
I chase it, shout my curses to stay
Out of my world
Too much here so grand
I’ll not bow down
To your darkness I swear!
Mock me now death
And I will not sway
For I will stand yet for one more fight!
It will not take me
Into its dark folds
For once I escaped
I have barred is lair
Warnings I plant for all to see
This monstrous creature
So none it may take.
Fight ye now, Fight I say!
Stand up against its ploys
Not its toys should you ever be
Seek more light,
Yes now even more
Burn into the deep dark lair
And once this battle won
Mark ye this field
Post your warnings
Seek the Light!
Never more shall this demon
Mock our day
Nor shall we ever
Fear its night!

This is a truly nice piece. The way you formated it. The big BOLD Heading was really interesting. There is darkness all through out the poem. Very well written.

Very strong!! I love how the protagonist is over coming the "deamons" of depression / death... most poetry do not follow this idea of triumph and succeeding. Thank you for sharing :)

hmm, very powerful poem. This really resonates with truth about the fight to survive saving lives. In the midst of our own troubles, we reach out and fight for lives that aren't even our own, while we battle to defend ourselves in our own life. The fight is always against the "dark horse" your symbolize of the death and depression in this world. But remember there are good forces out there too, higher then ours, and we do our best to fight for others lives and our own.
"But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!" Mathew 6:23 - New Testament of the Bible
I am praying you will receive God's light in your life because you have a been a light to others in their darkness. All is not lost :)

Blackness and depression cover this poem from beginning to end. Such pain and sorrow, and hurt. A dark write and a darker read. XX
