Deep Winter

 

Cold breaks the wind from north

Chasing warmth far off its course

Hiding light from creatures all

 

No warmth one finds

And matters of faith

Still deeply hide within that cold

And tales from past once more told

 

Can one escape the icy grasp

Of howling winds that make one gasp

And chill to core the once warm heart?

 

In dark the deep winter now hides

Its face once mocking all to stand

Once more to blast from all sides

As she breaks and forces the hand

 

North winds blast within that night

And stand so weakly those without might

So cold breaks that winter wind.

Your ideas are good, your thoughts behind this are equally great, and the visions it provokes are chilling and cold - all it should do yes, but the rhythm and the rhyme is not really good. I reread it and it becomes better, but still not as good as it should be. I can't help it, but I cannot tell you why this is so - are your lines too long - are they too short I don't know what would do the trick.
The piece in itself is good. Keep writing and you will find the right path ...
