The Illusion of Time

The Illusion of Time

A Poem by Charly

Constant

Tick tock tick tock

The rhythm never strays,

Never breathes, never ritards,

Never smoothly sways like a free sound wave,

Cannot decay or syncopate tickity tock tock tick.

No " tick tock don’t stop "

Constant

But what is time

Time time time time

Say it enough times and meaning melts away

Constant constantly c-c-constant

What is constance but a human invention

Waiting for intervention, starving for attention,

Just wanting to be noticed.

Constance can change on a moment’s notice.

Tick tock tock t-tock tick

Humans invented the monotone click click click

And if humans can create such firm endless measures

Then there’s nothing that tethers them " us,

Nothing that stops us from picking out the feathers, one-by-one

Of the goosedown pillow of time.

Tick tock clippity clap boom thud smack zoom slide "

Who better to decide

The preferred illusion of time.

Nice and original poem about the human need to manage our life with the monotonous Tick tock but it is certainly illusion. The days pass as if they were seconds and months as if they were hours or vice versa.

Maybe everything in life is actually an illusion as a Romantic writer wrote a long time ago.

This is great :) It reminded me of the e. e. cummings' poem, There Are So Many Tictoc- if you haven't read it you definitely should. I especially liked the first few lines in the second stanza about how saying time over and over again takes it's meaning away. I think the same is true about a lot of things.
Nice write!
