Fear

Fear

A Poem by Cassidy McIntosh

Fear

Cold water splashes you,
But you’re not wet.
It is fear that left you
Cold and shivering
As you walk through the graveyard
Because of a Halloween dare.
It’s pitch black and
You don’t want a hand to…
Reach…up…to…pull you under.

They left you at midnight…
The witching hour.
You’re not sure of the time
Because you don’t have a watch.
You want it to be close to one o’clock
So they will come back for you.
Things look like
They will
Jump out at you.
Shadows look like moving beings.
You’re terrified to the bone!
You don’t want to
Trip
And
Land
In a
Grave.
You head in the direction
In which you think is the gate.

Cold water splashes you,
This time
You’re wet!

Love the imagery, this is spooky and clever. I enjoyed this

Your use of imagery is astounding. Even though the reader is uncertain of the fear it is none the less real. Please post more of your work. Love you Baby

It is very descriptive, this poem is, and it makes very little effort in showcasing the presence of what lurks in the dark before us. The imagery is both psychological and symbolic ... the tension much evident in the third stanza, as ingeniously, the poet returns us to the beginning, more like starting ourselves on a journey but not realising that we've not even moved.
