Picking PetalsA Poem by sincerelyPicking Petals
“I love you” slipped from your lips a word that only thrived in books when it
is confined among pages and controlled by ink
I said it back Blissfully ignorant Completely unaware We would ruin each other
You unknowingly manipulated me With hopeful promises and kisses on my cheek But now my cheeks are tear stained And your promises are broken
You wanted to love me You wanted to hold me close But sometimes it takes being skin to skin To feel the overbearing distance
And I was never scared to love you That was simple and lovely Only fearful of the day When you realized your love for me had transpired
And so it began The endless cycle of picking petals off a daisy Then ripping out the roots of another With my words always ending In a sorrowful mumble He loves me not
As your love faded away like the autumn leaves My love grew Like bacteria, eating away at me And I hoped I could bring you spring And bring back your color But winter still came, and your leaves still
fell
And so we bounced between love and sorrow because neither of us wanted to admit the things we worked so hard to fix was going to remain broken. © 2017 sincerelyFeatured Review
