Burning Desire

Burning Desire

A Poem by Miles Colella
"

A poem about having an inexplicable desire for someone that is so intense that it makes your whole world spin.

"

Just the very thought of you

brings tears to my wanting eyes.

I love you so much that it

tears a hole in my throbbing chest.

You throw my heart in a vise;

its cold, metal teeth dig

deep into the core of my desire -

it bleeds for a new love.

I want to penetrate your innocence

and feel your heart melt into my eyes.

Your vulnerability feeds my yearning.

I long to be your passionate first.

Your breath on my neck heats my entire body,

yet chills run up my arms, trembling.

The sweat is like ice that burns my mind.

My nervous insides rumble with excitement.

My mind flies high and my body follows suit;

I am skipping on clouds and jumping rooftops.

This feeling won’t last but I grip it tight,

until I realize that it is too late.

I let down my guard and let her inside my world,

but she turns away and leaves me standing

in her dust. So I crawl back inside myself;

I bury all emotion, becoming a static stone.

Another had me and unlocked my soul -

she woke my sleeping spirit and created an

opening, leaving me exposed to the world;

she made me defenseless.

Hurt by the second, I close this hole;

I seal the wounds deep within to be hidden

forever, where no one can find them.

I will never open again.
