The American NightmareA Poem by Miles ColellaA poem exposing the lies we all live with every day.
We're a nation of zombies, brainless and hungry. We're a nation of vampires, drinking the blood of the innocent
We're a nation of monsters, scaring our children into submission.
We're a nation full of empty
Fears.
A white picket prison, a red bicycle from hell;
Everyone is cast under a suburban spell.
Neighbors flash false smiles as they invent fresh
Lies.
Life is packaged in little brown boxes
Wrapped in bright colors to please the eyes
We manufacture nature and synthesize happiness.
Once a year we like to
Pretend.
Men with black suits and green minds speak in codes and numbers.
Soulless beings inhabit tall buildings,
Laughing at their hopeless
Victims.
Sex-starved insomniacs spend sleepless nights surfing the web,
Spending their savings on Bluetooths and Blackberries:
Communication devices that require less communication.
Technology says we're advanced, but inside we are
Deteriorating.
