Long DrivesA Poem by Miles ColellaThis is a poem I thought of while driving home one night, conflicted feelings about past lovers.Long drives, even longer stop lights Sometimes straight, sometimes swerved. Sad songs, soft sweet sounds. Arise hope, then tumble after. I miss her face, her voice, her melody, Her smooth cold cheeks held against mine. Her warm embrace, her heated breast. I miss everything she was, and more. We fought, we fucked, we fell in love. We knew each other for some time. Then somehow we forgot what we knew And all that was left was walking away. Fourteen months, and then it’s gone In a blink of an eye, like it was only yesterday Since we held each other and swore our love And thought to ourselves “this is it”. Three years and then some, still got me thinking About what we had, and why it came to an end. I know it was me; I pushed you away. I was Afraid of the unknown, it’s too late to go back. All these things, come to me from a bottle. Like a fist through my heart, I’ve fallen apart. Everything comes back to me, all at once; Unforgiving madness, relentless beautiful memories. I miss you but the saddest part is I’m not sure who it is I miss. © 2013 Miles Colella |
