Wolves chase

Wolves chase

A Poem by Denim wite
"

a metaphor/fable for what our desires can lead into

"

Don't chase after wolves, friend, for if you get caught,

you'll surely be eaten

Running

jumping

walking

skipping

Is what I did as a child

chasing rabbits

frightening birds

down the straight narrow path

Running

walking

twirling

dancing

Is what I did at eleven

chasing squirrels

and catching rats

at the age of eleven

Running

racing

leaping

dawdling

is what I did at thirteen

chasing cats

and calling dogs

around the thickening straight path

Yelling

shouting

speeding

dancing

is what I did at sixteen

pestering snakes

and following wolves

down the wavering thickening path

then I stop

a wolf growls

and follows me

as I run down my path

no longer straight

no longer thin

no longer right

is the path I'm in

I am caught

and turned into them

watch your path

and your desires

are they wolves

and blazing fires?

are they birds

and innocent things?

is your path straight

or thickening?

think twice

and a third

to check where you are

for rats lead to cats

and dogs to wolves

what you seek and what you desire

will grow into a blazing fire

does it bring life?

does it bring light?

or does it consume

what is in sight?

do not follow wolves my friend

or you won't be eaten.

no.

You'll become like them.
