EscapeA Poem by cynicalbelieverEveryone needs to sometimes, weight of the world and all that, what differs is how we try and escape the drudgery of everyday ordeals.
The clock ticks over, T.V blares out, The sound audible yet unheard, Other things are drawing your mind.
A shout from below, Another nail in the coffin, It's all building up, Like grains of sand.
One or two don't affect you, But all too soon it engulfs you, Smothers you,
Struggling to move, To think straight, To breath, And then it hits you.
You need to escape.
Others have done that too, Work has affected them too much, Abuse left them broken, A broken heart left them dead inside.
So they escape, Some in a fantasy land, Surrounded by their dreams, All hopes have come true.
Others seek physical pain, To remind them they still feel, The blade cuts deep, The pain a bittersweet reminder.
And then there are those who escape completely, Leave everything behind, Their problems and companions, Their life.
But for all these people, The problems are still there, Never confronted, Never resolved.
But you need to confront them, Only then will they go away, It's scary I know, I felt like that too.
But that's why you can do it, You'll never be alone, Give me your hand, You can escape with me. © 2011 cynicalbelieverAuthor's Note
