heard the news today

i refused to take

i could not believe my ears

would it be denied?

would she say he lied?

and relieve me of my fears

 

my head sags, my brain is racked

i wonder what it is i lack

that he is able to give her

when i see him with her

 

i hesitated

now i'm devastated

i should have told her how i felt

i kept it in

then he swept in

with game that made her heart melt

 

i see he's a much better player

able to reveal his inner layer

a quality i wish i could incur

when i see him with her

 

does he rush to her aid

to blush her face

when she's feeling blue or down?

with a whispered phrase

to give her praise

as she hears no truer sound

 

if i were him, i'd shower her

with kind words to empower her

i know he similarly bids her

when i see him with her

 

is he still there to be her strength?

has he lifted her heart every time it sank?

or is he the reason she's injured?

has he gladly risen

to the opportunity given

in a way i never could with her?
