when i first saw you

i knew what to do

you were a target i wouldn't miss

but it didn't work

because some silly jerk

walked up and gave you a kiss

 

i hope it's only a matter of time

until you leave him and become mine

but i always wonder when

when i see you with him

 

there was a time

when i used to shine

i bet then you would've noticed me

but i lost the fight

he's just too bright

something i can never be

 

i wonder what i can do and what he's done

i feel like a star outshone by the sun

how i wish i wasn't so dim

when i see you with him

 

he speaks, you swoon

and i see there's no room

left for me inside your heart

i tried out

only to find out

i wasn't the actor for the part

 

it fills me with a jealous rage

to be constantly upstaged

time and time again

when i see you with him

 

but i'll be there when he lets you go

and i'll be there to let you know

that you can be whole once again

then surely you'll see

that you're happier with me

than you ever were with him
