A Chapter by Jordan Williams

i tried to stay awake
but the lull was more than i could take
the slowing heart rate, so i decided to partake
in dreams

dreamer, please don't rest
in images of loves confessed
your imagination's stretched
while your heart is closely kept
to yourself

she had a lasting touch
without contact, it shouldn't have meant so much
it slowed then rushed, a dying fall, but such
is dreams

dreamer, not again
you're back to where you know you've been
an imitation of perfection and then
you wake to get to the day's end
by yourself

a dangling fairytale
or a promise? i could barely tell
still it's scary, well, i'm wary it felt
like dreams

surely she still sits
in her tower for one who won't quit
because the subtle gift's effects won't lift
from dreams

dreamer, you're not the only one
but it feels like everyone
is fully awake, able to take what comes
while you resent and rejoice reruns
of yourself
in dreams
