18. domestic standoff

18. domestic standoff

A Chapter by Jordan Williams

we tried so hard to clean our lenses

but they're too jaded not to be tinted

they added color to all our senses

a former brightness we've since resented

we were both compelled to flirt with a flair

together we fell for allure through a stare

keep your distance, you are cursed if you care

but you made me care first to be fair

we nudged each other, inches by inches

to get in the game and off the benches

we budged each other, wrenches by wrenches

cooperation competing with intentions

try to revive a spell we were sure was there

but it's easy to tell we're an imperfect pair

in time you made me worse for the wear

but i made you worse first to be fair

truth be told, neither of us listen

selective hearing, glossed over omissions

the truth unfolds, ugly without glisten

we net each other but continue on fishing

we both know well we're too impure and impaired

for hope to help to cure and repair

our soul windows exchange furious glares

one of us must concede first to be fair
