Hourglass Figure

Hourglass Figure

A Poem by Natalia Queen

Everything I ever wanted
you made me feel like I could have it
everything I ever wanted
in the palm of my hands
slipped through like sand

A series of unfortunate events
flipped over the hourglass again,
and we had a chance
to change
what could have been

your love was one of a kind, and I
dropped it in the ocean of bloodstains
The winter always stays
I can see it on your face
I wish I knew what to say

imprinted myself on you like a tattoo
that never healed
every winter the bitter loneliness gets infected again
And the question begs
Who should we hold onto?
Scars will fade
Memories will too

I wish I knew what to tell you
In another lifetime we will try again
I love you
I miss you
I promise I will see you again.

This one has regret written all over it. Specifics are not given, but it seems that what appeared to be true love didn't work out. Implied is a sense of responsibility for the final breakup. Now there is a seasonal sorrow for what was not, and a seeming hope for better luck in another incarnation. Living in the past is sometimes satisfying, but is nevertheless a dead end street.
