Our Weekend

Our Weekend

A Poem by Ivory
"

A Sestina form poem about being a working mother, I'm sure many can relate. Another poem that I had post before.

"

Sitting under the sky, clear blue;

What a treat to enjoy such weather.
We sit together, mother and daughter;
Admiring fluffy clouds, marshmellow in shape;
Trying to touch them, instead you point.
Your smile lifts me.

You, my daughter;
Will experience many beautiful days of warm weather;
Hope you share some with me.
Time will pass, clouds will lose shape.
The sky will change from blue
To black, and at that point
I’ll start to miss my daughter.
Longs days of warm weather
Laying under the clear blue
sky, watching clouds take funny shape,

Your eyes tell me
Not to leave you daughter,
Please don’t be blue.
The weekend weather
Will come again
And I’ll spend it only with you.

I like the descriptions here, especially in the first and last stanza.

The sky will change from blueTo black, and at that pointI'll start to miss my daughter.

I like the way this poem progresses from the beginning and ends with a promise from the mother. Great way to end it.

I had a stay-at-home mom so all through my growing up years, I had her right beside me, whenever I needed her and even when I didn't! So I've never had to wait for the weekend like the little girl here. But your poem reminded me of the mother-daughter times that we've shared - lazy afternoons, shopping, movies, gossip, quarrels - everything.

Thanks for that.
