Nine years of Ground Zero

Nine years of Ground Zero

"
That morning, I was inside a swimming supplies shop downtown looking for the replacement winter pool covers  for our swimming pool. It was a happy and an ordinary morning that I usually start every day. No one knew that on that sunny and wonderful day, the twin towers of World Trade Center will fall just in an instant.

I woke up that morning really wonderful. I had breakfast and prepared to go to work early that morning. I started the day with the usual things and stuffs I do. It was not a different day from my every day routine.

Before heading to the office, I decided to look for pool stuffs downtown. So I parked my car in front of the shop and started sorting things out. I was even talking to the sales man and he was cheerful showing some things I needed.

Until one moment, the city was already in chaos. People were already scrambling, many are crying but there was one expression on their faces, shocked.

We saw on TV two planes hit the World Trade Center. The first plane brought one down and not long after, the second one did the other tower. We went out of the shop to see the burning buildings situated not too far from the shop I was at that time.

Sounds of sirens were already mixed. From Police, Ambulances, Firemen, and others I can’t figure out anymore. Everyone had fear that there might be another plane that could hit in an instant.

I hurriedly thought of someone who was working in the World Trade Center, but my mind was blacked out. I was stunned and all I could do was to watch the burning structures until they fall down completely.

Time passes so quickly. It is now already nine years when the twins fell. It is already almost a decade but the memories are still fresh inside my mind. It’s like it only happened just last week.

The Ground Zero turns nine years old this year, just as old as my safety pool  cover on my swimming pool. But the memories are as young as a nine day old kid. And maybe, every time I see the Ground Zero, I will always remember the tragedy even if it already turns 90.
