Now let’s get something straight

I'm not

Yes I do confess, I am a lesbian

in the flesh

I will not let you criticize me because of it

And that reason is because what if I thought straight was bad too

Could I criticize you?

Now let’s get something straight in those homophobe brains

I care not if you are restless or with fear when you read this

Being a lesbian doesn't make much difference

I'm still a human being like anyone else

And here I stand on both feet, just like you, I’m just like me

For I am a lesbian who is proud to be, yet a little fearful too

Because do you have to deal with the s**t that I do?

No because you're straight

So let’s get something out

I write just like anyone else

I am the person who you comment and say good work or more too

For yet again I am just a person, anyone can adore

I do not flaunt that I am les, not in public at all

don't take that as if I do not care

for the reasoning I don't cut my hair short

or wear rainbows everywhere

is because I am a person, I am Clare before I am queer

On my grave it will say my name

Not lesbian, or les, or queer human being

I in turn am just me

I am the girl who passes you without a glance

Who you would never think she would ever like girls

No if you passed me, you would think I was straight as a pin

but I tell you, I do not hide behind my appearance

I dress and look the way I do because I want too

So let your brains settle

For I will not be in the next gay parade

I will be working, and studying, and living life as well as I can

I will be just the girl who passes your way

Who you smile at and say good morning to

For even with what I am, I am just me

The girl who is not straight but you would never know

Just plain Clare

The girl anyone could adore.
