Valentines

Valentines

A Poem by Clare Ashbury
"

sitting in front of the televisions, i wrote three poems in 15 minutes.......this was the third .

"

Chocolate kisses

Satin ruby hearts

Cards of already written words

On a single knee

Ring in palm, “Love me, and marry me”

Tasteless poetry

Roses are red, from time to time white and pink too

Violets are blue, then why call the violets?

Love is sweet, sometimes not at all

And so are you, cruel sometimes, maybe once in a while kind

Cupid with heart sharp arrows

Children that pass around “Be my valentines”

Children moving in the first steps at love

These little souls with whole hearts will break soon

Unfortunate darlings, walking into the darkness with a childlike glow

A public holiday of plastic, candy, hears, teddy bears, flowers and more

The one day I despise the color red….my favorite color nonetheless

A day you’re suppose to have love, a kiss in the morning

Yet some stay home and mourn

Buy their own candy, flowers, and teddy bears

This day only lasts twenty four hours

Means so much, and yet so little

Then the day after the world is the same

Love goes on, wedding dates are set, and still regrets

The next day another twenty four hours

Hours of life as it progresses, no bullshit holiday of love

Happy Valentines Day

A day of red

A day I hate

Always will
