After The Storm

After The Storm

A Poem by Cassidy Mask
"

For a competition my English teacher told us about...

"

The smoke cleared

Revealing the

Destruction

Revealing the

Devastation

The ruin

(Our bones were

Snapped

Our hearts bled dry

But no one cared

- The wounds were

On the inside)

Now all was calm

No bullets

Shredded the air

No cries

No deaths

(No acid words)

(Hateful glares)

(No guilt…)

All was calm

Like the calm

Before the storm

Only

The storm was over

Or that’s what

They told us

(But we knew better)

‘What now’ we asked

But we did not wait

For a reply

After all

What answer

Did they have

But ‘carry on’

(Or die…)

And so we did

(We turned our backs

On death)

We carried on

Just like before

Like every other time

(What choice did we have?..)

Only now we were

Stronger

Now we knew

Our own weaknesses

Our faults

Our defects

(Not to mention

What we saw in others)

Now we could

Rebuild our lives

Filling in the gaps

And cracks

In our defences

(But it was like

Building a house

Using Pritt Stick in

Place of cement)

Now we could

Live our lives

Without fear

(Of Death)

Of the coming storm

(Pain of living

Spread our arms

In welcome)

Claire! If you enter, no one will stand a chance so if i was a bad person i'd say don't enter, but fortunately for you, i'm not a bad person XD enter girl, you say there's no positive stuff in it but the ending makes it seem like they're stronger now and have more of a chance to me which does kind of seem like positivity, huuuuuuh? SO ENTER DAMN YOU

Very nice. I really like the movement of this piece. And it's nice that it's poignant without being overwhelming. Which actually ends up being stronger than if you had put the emotion in more blatantly. Very well done. I hope you did well in the contest.
