What I Need

What I Need

A Poem by Cassidy Mask
"

Inspired by my Dad: 'I need a belt that isn't broken'

"

I need a belt that isn’t broken

I need a shoe without a hole

I need a day with time to think

I need a time to just let go

I need a friend who understands me

I need a foe with whom to fight

I need a smile that isn’t bitter

I need a perfect starry night

I need a cloud that I can float on

I need a sea of deepest blue

I need a song for how I feel

I need a ‘finished’ story too

I need a summer where the sun shines

I need a winter of dazzling white

I need a tree with twisted branches

I need a river of pure light

I need a ring of engraved silver

I need a drink like liquid gold

I need a secret place to hide

I need a chance to just grow old

As a rule I hold rhyming poems in contempt, they remind me of cocker spaniel puppies. They are sooo cute and their eyes say pet me! pet me! So you pet them, and then they get so excited that they piss all over the floor. As a rule I prefer the laid back story, one that like a mature lab, they just lay there and they are like 'if you wanna pet me go ahead'. I even have some love for the story or poem that is so aggressive and overwhelming, that it makes your mouth go dry and your heart slam as if it were a Pit Bull that followed you home with that ominousness rumble in it's throat, you know the one, he's not exactly chasing you but, kind of stalking you in broad daylight so you just keep looking over your shoulder as he paces you. With that all said I loved this poem it rang with simplicity, sincerity, and truth.
