The Wizard

The wizard stood poised upon the jagged cliff overlooking the tumultuous sea. The clouds darkened thunder rumbled in the heavens. He called the sea to him; waves crashed to the shore below. The wizard, garbed in robes of royal blue with silver crescent moons and stars emblazed on the satin material, glimmered in the violent bursts of light from the lightning.

He raised his wand skyward, he called the power of the heavens to him. Lightning erupted in the sky as it stuck his outstretched wand…energizing the wizard. An aura of ultimate power encased him, as I watched from a small paddled boat floundering in the raging waves.

I sat silently in my little wooden boat, entranced by the sight of him. My gaze fixated on the lone powerful man atop the jagged cliffs. His power drew me to him… physically, because the boat seemed to drift in direction…emotionally, because I wanted this powerful man on a most base primitive level. I had yet to even see this man clearly, but I knew that I was created for him body and soul. Just as I knew that he was created for me.

The pain rolled off this man as tangible as the waves that crashed to the shore. As I watched fascinated, my mind wandered what had caused this man such pain that he would take his anger or frustration out on the heavens.

As my boat neared the ravenous shore, worry began to permeate my mind. Fear soaked its way into my heart. I looked up helpless to the gagged rocks to where my wizard stood. The closer my little wooden boat neared to the cliffs the more afraid I became. I looked to my wizard, regret for never being able to meet him face to face bubbled in my heart, for I knew that once my boat reached the cliffs it, and I, would be torn into pieces. I would not survive to meet my wizard. The sea would see to that. I looked to him, standing solemnly on the cliffs that were about to take my life, and all I could feel was sadness. Our eyes locked, his dark eyes to my light ones, in one swift moment as if he had suddenly felt my presence. In that one moment it was as if our souls were reuniting after being separated for eternity. I felt myself, my soul, being called to this man, who was in such pain…was that the reason I just had to take the boat out on a night like this? Was this man the reason that I had disobeyed my father and stole his dinghy? I never took my eyes from him. I could feel the boat getting closer to the cliffs, the spray of the sea as it bounced violently off the rocks sprayed me, soaking me, but never did my eyes leave his.

Slowly, I could feel my boat turn as though a giant hand had repositioned it and pushed it gently to the now calm shore. I drifted safely to the shore. My path cleared of all danger. He, my wizard, had delivered me safely. As my boat hit the wet sand, I lowered my eyes to see what had stopped it, the wizard disappeared. When I looked up to silently thank the man for my safe return to shore, he was gone. The void I felt in my soul was almost unbearable; my tears rivaled the now falling rain.

I now had a new mission in life, to find the Wizard and to make that man mine.

Determination set; I was on my way.
