I Thought

I Thought

A Poem by Chong N. Kim

I Thought

I thought,
It was me that broke us apart.

I thought,
If I accepted all the blame,
Maybe you would come back to me.

I thought,
We could give this another try,

But times like this,
Makes me ask the questions,
“why?”

You don’t give me clear messages,
Are you playing games
With my heart?

I know,
I’ve hurt you,
But have you ever thought you hurt me, too?

You wondered why,
I was seeking somewhere else?

You can’t see how blind you are,
That I didn’t get what I really needed in you.

Now, that we’ve been apart,

I thought,
Being without you
was impossible for me to go on.

I thought,
Without your presence,
Would make me feel incomplete.

I’ve been on my own now.
I’ve been without your arms,
And found ways to love myself.

I thought,
If I opened my heart to you;
Maybe, just maybe you’d be the one for me.

I thought,
If I could try to love someone
For the first time,
Regardless of all the pain,
I’ve been through.
I wouldn’t have to search anymore?

I know,
I’ve made mistakes in this relationship.

I know,
I’m not all to blame.

Now, I know
We’re just not meant to be.

So, I might as well,
Just let you go,
Since you refuse to see me.

I thought,
Maybe we could at least still be friends,
But I don’t think
That’s even an option for you.

So, just drop off the key,
And start
Forgetting about me.

This must have been a painful write for you. In the 7th stanz you have somewhere I think you meant someone. Now I know
we're just not meant to be
so just drop off the key
the rest I think weakens the point and makes you seen like begging him. Only my opinion and still is a good write.
