Death

Death

A Poem by Chong N. Kim

Death
I’d hear the buzzing noise from the florescent light,
As I wait patiently on the table
To be examined.
As the nurse came in
To inject my arm with an IV tube.
As the medication made it’s way;
I began to feel a chilling sensation
That didn’t feel right to me.
I noticed the buzzing noise was fading,
The voices in the other room
Began to rise in my ear drums
My heart start to palpitate
So fast I could hear the rhythm
And feeling it thump out of my chest.
The experience was frightening,
Flashes of my life past and present
Haunted in my mind.
Everyone around me
Moved their lips,
But their voice has been muted.
I began to feel cold
And my fingertips
Were numb to the touch.
I began to panic with fear
As I would hear my chest
Rise and fall
In inconsistent beat.
I became afraid
That this moment would be my final
Destination.
I closed my eyes
And made my request
To the Lord up above,
To spare me this moment
To cherish the life that was
Given to me this very night
So that I would have the opportunity
To make life worth living,
So when my time will come,
I would not have to fear
Of incomplete task,
But to just fear of missing
The people who are treasured in my life.
Life is too short to stay angry,
Bitter and holding grudges that only
Strips your spirit away . . .
