A Weak Woman

A Weak Woman

A Poem by Chong N. Kim

A Weak Woman

To call me a weak woman,
is saying that I am humility
In your eyes,
Am I considered a weak woman,
Because of the color of my skin?
I maybe Asian,
But to be degraded does not come in my favor.
Your perception of me is submissive,
When have I faltered the grounds to kiss your shoes?
Because I am small in built,
You think I could be your puppet?
I’ll tend to your needs,
As soon as mine has been met.
To call me a weak woman
Because “Minority women”
Take better care of their men?
Please don’t humor me,
With your unapologetic myths . . .
If I were to stand up to your commands,
Would I be the woman to your standards
Or a woman to mine?
Could I submit my body,
Since you believe you can own me
With the Proposal song you related to me?
Have you not heard my voice?
Do you wish to be breast fed
With a mother that you are still searching
Instead of an independent woman like me?
Who do you think you are . . .
Too fool the people around you,
Chivalry as they come,
On the surface no one will ever know the truth . . .
Go ahead and bluff your friends and mine,
The only person you could never fool
Is the woman you consider
Weak . . .

Words which calmly but firmly take apart a man(?) who deserves it. Who lives by a common concept rather than by acceptance of having his belief formed by the wonderful experience that could have been his - but he missed it through pre-conceptions. He never, ever deserved you.
Sensitive and talented expression; blank verse of a high standard; a few errors of grammar and spelling which a good edit would soon sort out.
Kind regards,
JohnL
