What you taught me.

What you taught me.

A Poem by Chong N. Kim

WHAT YOU TAUGHT ME!

When you yell at me,
You taught me
that anger is a split second away from violence.
When you tell me
that I can do nothing right;
you've taught me the fear of achievement.
When you leave me alone with strangers,
that you barely know;
You've taught me,
that if something they do to me,
won't matter to you.
When you beat me in rage,
I beg for death,
in order to get out.
When your anger is filled with hate,
I treat others with bitterness.
When I come to you for comfort,
And I am ignored;
You've taught me that my feelings don't matter.
When I make mistakes,
and you condemn me with the words of "Hell".
I've learned there are no second chances.
When I see you steal from others,
you've taught me to take what I want.
when you lie to me,
I've learned that my life is filled with fairytales.
Of all the things you've taught me,
then you wonder why I act the way I do,
Then ask yourself?
What you taught me?

Heartfelt reflection of parent to child, learned to learner, teacher to taught. Struck a chord with me, especially the stark honesty of the lines and the perception of the rationale. Great write.

We are what we are taught and hope we have the good sense in reasoning what is right and what is wrong. A good write on every day life. Tony

A beautiful reflection of patterns of life repeated .We are only as wise as our teachers in many respects. I really liked this poem.
