Prisoner

Prisoner

A Poem by Chong N. Kim
"

Domestic violence doesn't just affect the spouse, it also affects the child.

"

PRISONER

The curtain of darkness;
I cannot see.....
I long for hope;
it's beyond my reach.
I’m a refugee within my own home.

My soul is lost,
such dreams of hopeless...
My words have no meaning.

Everyday, I am beat by the hands which were meant to protect.
Innocence is robbed without an ounce of remorse...

Too young to comprehend which is right or wrong?
Sadness to numbness, I feel nothing...

I’m here, shackled by chains;
held in captivity by my patron's vanity..

My eyes are like the desert:
My tears are without substance;
what then remains for this child?

I am bound to the conception that
Freedom is but a mere dream?

I am a prisoner within the family circle:
My spirit is absent,
yet physically a hostage
in a hearth meant to be safe...
