As I WaitA Poem by Chong N. KimA poem for my soldier who is far away from my arms.
As I wait . . .
When I wake from my slumber,
I feel the barren of your embrace.
As I submit to my loneliness,
Your combat of the righteous cause
Is reminisced by your ongoing opposition.
Through your amenability
A home would not exist.
Without your presence,
I would not have my liberty.
Without your strife
Our independence would not subsist.
Everything you do,
Manifest in our ability to acclaim
Our emancipation.
I am forever humble to be your wife.
To have the opportunity to stand
Next to a man I foresee as my equal.
Very few comprehend that a solider
Has the ability to feel.
When you feel vulnerable,
Be confident that my love is always here.
When you face the unknown,
Know that my prayers are forever with you.
When you lie awake at night,
And you begin to wonder if I am still around,
I lie in our bed, counting the days for you to return.
I kiss every memory we store on our walls,
I hold the ring you once gave me,
To make me your whole.
So, when you feel apprehensive,
Fear not, for my heart is in your hands.
I will be here waiting for you with open arms.
My love,
My Soldier,
My Hero.
