Imagine SlaveryA Poem by Chong N. Kima revised version from the original work of mine called, "Imagine" but this was revamped to slavery.Imagine Slavery Imagine, existing in a world reversed, A mirror of the life in which you’re immersed. Imagine, your children's hopes race to outrun The shadow of poverty, each day begun" In a desperate bid, you place them with care, Trusting a stranger to lighten your despair. Aria, a twin from Jamaican lands, Sold to adoption through unknown hands. While her other half, Dominic, rests with God, His life is a fleeting whisper, a path untrod. His being lingers only where shadows part" For those who gather, to auction his heart. Imagine the end of romantic dreams, To be cherished, desired, or so it seems" Desperate to grasp at a promised life, Only to find yourself bound in strife. Sorya, 26, from Honduras' land, Marked by a violent past, a heavy hand. The scars on her face tell stories untold, A haunting image, impossible to hold. She yields to the weight of a cruel decree, Succumbing to chains, a life in slavery. Survival turns to a quest without end, Where trembling hope longs for dreams to mend. Imagine, the house of your youth stands bare, Alisha, a girl with her innocence torn, Imagine a land steeped in poverty’s weight, Where survival twists into cruelest fate. You wake to find, by your mother's hand, You’re forever disabled, unable to stand" Not for care, but to beg and deceive, A scorned hustler, taught only to grieve. And there’s little Heiu, just nine years old, Walking on hands, in a story untold, Turned away by a world that won’t see his cries, A child left broken beneath empty skies. Imagine Natalie, just sixteen years old, Invited to a VIP party, glittering and bold. But soon she’s posing for the underworld’s gaze, Unaware she’s crossed from freedom’s embrace. No longer in the borders of her homeland's care, She’s lost in a system, a silent despair. Imagine the authorities, their promises to save, To search and rescue from this dark wave" But jurisdiction falters, corruption prevails, And their empty pledges fade, as justice fails. Can you imagine lives stolen each day, By thieves in the shadows, lurking to prey? Predators hiding in social networks’ glow, While we’re distracted, our children, they know. Our focus diverted to matters less dire, As innocence fades in a world full of fire. When will we awaken, prioritize right, And guard our young ones against the night? (c) C.Kim, 2013 © 2024 Chong N.
