Moving On

Moving On

A Poem by Chong N. Kim
"

A poem about a lost love and taking the steps to move on.

"
Moving on . . .
You once told me,
“If a woman seeks a compliment,
and the man does not reply,
he has failed to keep her happy.”

So I say to you,
“If you’re searching for a Queen,
look no further;
I will pour my love into you.
But if you dare to scorn me,
regret will be the shadow
that lingers once I slip away.”

We revealed our truths,
what we were capable of,
yet you are the only one
who still carries my heart.
I’ve tried to move forward,
but this pain clings
like a haunting echo I can’t escape.

How did I lose you?
How did you slip from my grasp?
To hold you in my arms again
is a wish I would barter everything for,
just to feel the warmth of your presence.

Can I find another,
someone who feels as deeply as you did?
Someone who can express their fondness
in verses and rhyme?
No music,
only my lyrics,
just their heart and truth
are all I seek.

I long for my heart to skip a beat,
for my thoughts to be enveloped by you,
for my days to brim with wonder
and excitement,
but how can I
when you’ve drifted away?

How can you be gone
and leave me in this cold embrace
of emptiness?
How can my heart love another
when skepticism clouds my mind?

Help me find peace,
send gentle winds to guide my path,
shine a star to light my way,
and I will know
you’ve given me the strength
to let go.
