Fail

Fail

A Poem by Chong N. Kim

Fail
Never did I imagine I’d be on the other end,
so far from your grasp.
You’ve lost your vision of me,
and I’ve lost faith in us.
It’s time to close the door
and begin a new chapter
without you in it.

You’re no longer the Prince I waited for;
how can you profess your love
when you haven’t heard my voice?
Why hang on
when there’s nothing left of me?

I’ve stumbled a thousand times,
striving to be the woman you envisioned.
I’ve let myself down,
failing to stand up for my own empowerment.

It’s time for a change,
time for me to leave
and start anew,
once again.
I’ve been here before,
and I’m putting my foot down"
no more going in circles.

I will no longer fail myself;
I will rise and fulfill my dreams.
Try to break me
and watch me soar.

It’s time to shut the door;
tomorrow is a new day.
