Holding OnA Poem by Chong N. KimIt's about holding on in recovery from pain, addiction, loss and even our own victimization.Your life hangs by a fragile thread, uncertainty shadows every step, the end result a haunting unknown. Coins clink in your pockets, but your baby goes unfed. Despair wraps around you, hopelessness glimmers in your eyes. Yet a whisper lingers, “Hold on, just hold on.” Kneeling in prayer, you plead for God to hear your heart, but silence is the only answer that meets your cries. Close your eyes, imagine an angel standing quietly by your side. Cling to that last breath, for your soul must endure. Nothing comes easy, but the risk is worth it all; trust the angel guiding your path, follow your heart’s call. Once the drugs have slipped away, clarity returns like dawn's first light. You tremble before reality, its weight feels insurmountable. Yearning for numbness, aching from endless suffering, while those who loved you fade into echoes of the past. As you crave your next escape, the piece that could complete the puzzle, deep within, a longing remains to break free from the misery that has haunted your spirit for years. You fight so hard, yet it never seems enough, running away as burdens multiply. In a cold, dark hotel room, alone and afraid, you take one last shot, dreaming of a life never lived. Hold on just a little longer; it may not be as bleak as it seems. Step by step, conquer your fears. Embrace the change that allows your heart to feel again; through the pain, you will grow stronger. Cry no more; discover a love that only you can possess. By: Chong N. Kim © 2024 Chong N. Kim |
