You had me.

You had me.

A Poem by Chong N. Kim

You had me"

I was your queen,

fulfilling every desire,

lifting you higher,

chasing your dreams.

Then you declared you didn’t need me,

and I cried,

begging you to stay,

but you turned away,

choosing your own path.

Five years have passed;

now you see me again,

approaching as if nothing’s wrong.

You called me damaged, broken,

unworthy of love,

yet now you say

you miss what we shared?

Get out before I unleash my rage.

Don’t baffle me with empty words"

you had me wrapped around your finger,

a fool for your charm.

But I’m over it now;

without you, I’m living my dreams.

Today, I shine with my girls,

surviving like my heroes,

and what you had was a ghost,

a version of me long dead.

I stand taller now,

no longer bowed to the ground;

even you can’t shackle my spirit.

You don’t realize what you had

until it’s gone.

So watch me walk out this door…
