Try Again

Try Again

A Poem by Chong N. Kim

Try Again

Every day feels like a battle,

A long, aching fight

To break free from the shadows.

I’ve had my moments of losing my way,

And yes, I’ve made my mistakes.

But each time,

I rise, I try again"

Brush off the dust, and move forward.

Do you have the right to judge?

Were you there when I stumbled?

Can you claim the power

To define my worth?

Save your slander"

I’m done listening.

I’ve grown into the woman I am,

Through tears and trials,

And today, I stand tall.

The difference between us?

I kept rising.

Even when the fall was deep,

Though it took time,

I pulled myself up"alone.

Could you walk in my shoes?

Could you survive what I have

And still come out whole?

So don’t tell me what I already know.

No matter how often I fall,

I’ll rise,

And I’ll keep trying.
