Ma'Dam

Ma'Dam

A Poem by GypsyMoonCat
"

This was written in an effort to personify a body of water. I chose a dam which is very low, waiting for those desperately needed rains.

"

I sleep atop a bed of mud, dry dirt my bound'ry rail

I swirl in gentle breezes, chopping up when under hail
My colour changes by the hour; I'm brown, then grey, or blue
(the Master's mood, so changeable, dictating tone and hue)

He leaves my stores depleted and then unpredictably
decides the time has come to rain His bounty over me
For I have disappeared beneath a sun whose reddened scream
delivered me to hell where all I held became a dream

My outstretched limbs of winding, dried up trenches in the earth
reach out to’ards those memories of bursting after birth -
when I was overflowing, drenching ground and bush and tree!
Until the fires came, their scorching ire draining me

I've seen so many changes in the seasons over years,
and glimpses of replenishment that come, then disappear

But even so, I know that soon I’ll revel in His grace

and joy will ripple sweetly 'neath the dimples on my face

I love this! I love when writers get creative and humanize something that we often don't think about or take for granted, and it's a great challenge for the writer as well!
Beautifully written!

About
I write mainly poems, but sometimes do the odd short story or flash fiction. I love poetry, although I'm not keen on the modern three line style, so you won't see many, if not ANY, of those! Been writ.. more..
