FleshA Poem by Kaden Elias Sylvers
we are all flesh and blood
fragile mutating changeable I stand at the edge of the water look out at a rocky ocean the sky merges with the murky water and the waves crash and fall the day and night intersect and become one what do we do with this skin as it falls from our faces? what becomes of this fragile flesh cut it and it bleeds cut it and a trail of scars zigzags across this ocean of flesh but nothing really changes, the current roars unshamefully as the waves crash and fall, intersecting with a dark, hollow moon cut it and it bleeds cut it and pink, fleshy scars raised, jagged and uneven litter it’s surface but you can’t slice off the mounds that lie on its surface what becomes of fragile flesh when you hide it under blankets it scorns you, you scorn it back, you can’t help but whimper and stare when you’d much rather look away, and never look back when will this skin fall off my body, when will this flesh morph, cut it and it bleeds cut it and it bleeds but nothing ever changes © 2011 Kaden Elias Sylvers |
