Hey Dad

Hey Dad

A Poem by SimpleMind

Hey Dad
I'm writing to you
Not to tell you that I hate you
But just to ask you
How you feel
How you feel apart
That we're far apart

Are you happy in this great wild world
Do you think about your sons
Do you miss your little girl
When days go by
When you sleep at night
Do you think if we're alright?
Well we're alright
I'm alright

Chorus:
It's been a long hard year
Without you by my side
Why,..don't you know the times that we cried?
You broke my mother's heart
And then you broke up my life
It's not okay
But we're alright
I remember the days when you're a hero in my eyes
But that was a long, long story of mine
I spent so many years
And I learn to survive
Now I'm writing just to let you know
I'm still alright

Hey Dad
I'm writing to you
Just to tell you that I still need you
And to ask you
How you feel that we're far apart
You live apart

Are you happy in this great wild world
Do you think about the past
When you sang and kiss goodnight?
Every night goes by
Please listen to my cry
And think that we're not alright
Not alright
I'm not alright

Chorus2:
It's been a long hard year
Without you by my side
Why did you leave me on the other side?
You broke my mother's heart
And then you broke up my life
It's not okay
But I'm alright
I remember the days
When you're right here by my side
Alone in the night
With tears in my eyes
I spent so many years and I learn to survive
Now I'm writing just to let you now
I'm still alright
Hey Dad

Hi guys!
My partner wrote this song with me as the inspiration. Just wanna share this with you guys and let me know what you think about this. Me personally, I love it much! Dramatic, yes, but the message is right there. Straight and clear.

'Hey Dad!' I'm deeply engaged into this since I've lost my dad too without even lot of memories to remember. Can you sing it too? :-) cuts deep, well conveyed, emotional. Perhaps dance with father got another installment in here :-) Verily, it is a great great piece that could go a long, long way. :-)

This tugged at my heart and moved me. People break homes not thinking of the toll it takes on little souls.

I think you've nailed it...this is a story that is all too familiar to so many of us, yet the way the speaker handles the situation is truly enviable...it would be so easy to lash out in hateful anger at such treatment, but this speaker shapes it in a certain way and makes it a statement of pride, which is the best way to approach it. It may not be okay, and may never be okay, but you're alright nonetheless, because you know you're a good person and require no reinforcement from wayward parents to ratify it. A truly heartfelt piece that spoke to me not just on a poetic level but an emotional level...excellent work Simple :)

Great lessons to be learn in the poem. You create good conversation and vision of daughter speaking honest and true words. I could feel the song in the words also. I like the wisdom given in the words. Please don't forget me. I'm still here. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Songs are dramatic..or passionate ? I think it is a great expression to a father who chose to leave his family. Not hateful, nor bitter..just letting him know, his presence is missed, and you survived.. I really like it also ! Bravo !

My Pleasure ( :
I do not know how it feels to have a dad who left and I really can't imagine. I love my dad to pieces and would die if he left. This is a beautiful and touching write. I really enjoyed the emotions, the sadness, but also the strength to carry on. Great work! (:
