They All

They All

A Poem by SimpleMind
"

They all say what is right, they all say I'll be cursed if I get wrong, they all say it...and they'll all say it still

"

The opposite of sadness

they all say is a smile

And across the island of sorrow

they all say is a promised paradise

Beyond the darkness of mountains

they all say is a golden sunrise

They all say it

they all say beautiful things exist

And they all

drag me away from it

Sorry for being dramatic this time... but it's really what I feel. I know I shouldn't be like this because I'm not the only one suffering among the billion souls in this world, but I suddenly feel sad.

Short, well expressed and wonderfully portrayed. This poem has the potential to reach into ones heart. Great piece of work. Though short, very great. May those who drag you away from fortune gain misfortune themselves.

My pleasure...:)
Don't feel sad! It's alright to feel down every now and then, your problems may not be the worst in the world, but they are still your problems!
Great poem anyway if a little saddening... smile for me gorgeous!!!

I'm glad you like it.. thanks :)
I like the drama in this one. People have a way of "telling" us that everything is going to be okay, but in the midst of the darkness, words can't always bring us back into the light. "Just don't be sad", "Everything will be okay", "Don't worry"...I've heard these things a million times, but they aren't magic pills that somehow change my mood; actually sometimes they make me more angry or sad. Anyway, I liked the idea of this one.

My only little issue...the repetion of "they" is what bothers me. I would love it if you found another way to say "they" because it is a little impersonal. I don't know...it's a stylistic choice, and yours to make. Overall, I enjoyed the piece.

indeed friend of mine.
It's hard not to sympathize with the despondency that comes through in the last couplet...sometimes sadness just comes and goes as it pleases, and we're powerless to stop it...I relate to this one very much...

It must be hard.. thanks for dropping by
The opposite of sadness really isn't a smile, it's indifference, part of the problem to begin with...this one stings. To be dragged away from hope is probably the saddest of all, nice piece SM.
