Cut Off From SocietyA Story by Christine PetersI am what is quite considered as an 'elderly person': I am over seventy. During this Pandemic, I spend most of my time stuck in my lonely one-bedroom Sheltered flat. I have nobody to shop for me, so I venture out on my mobility scooter maybe twice or three times a week to purchase my barest necessities but only for less than an hour - I am in and out and back home again in the shortest time possible. There is no point in me going any further than my local food stores because all main high street shops: large or small, are unavailable for me to purchase my needs. So I mostly shop on-line. I get no visits from my own two siblings and neither from my own three children, not to mention any of my three grandchildren.., No. I am just stuck in my isolated flat trying hard each day to make the last probably moments of my life worthwhile with just finding ways to entertain myself (television does not help), from the early moment that I get up to the same when I go back to bed. Hang on..., I am not talking about the 'Coronavirus Lockdown' here - I am referring to how it has always been for me since I retired and became old. So in a way.., I am on top of the game and just living my normal now life. So just maybe.., and it is a maybe.., many of those now having to suffer the same as what many of us 'old folk' have to daily endure - they may just get a taste of what it is like to be cut off from all society.
