Electricity - the Best Invention Since the Wheel

Electricity - the Best Invention Since the Wheel

A Story by Christine Peters

The other day, around midday, my trusty old microwave took a sudden dive and blew out all my home electricity.

I panicked and checked the box for trip-switches. All seemed okay.

I then rang for help for some engineer to come and help. I sat for hours just desperately waiting for somebody to call, but they didn't.

I got to thinking.., with all this modern technology we have today - most if not all is useless without 'Electricity'.

I mean I got a large flat-screen television with a great soundbar. I got Sky TV with selected future recordings. A Blue-Ray DVD player with many top films in stock. My computer is handbuilt to spec and I have broadband and WiFi for the Internet and for my Smart-phone that does need daily charging., plus my cordless land-line phone.

My fridge freezer stocked up with frozen foods for the week and even my storage heating. My bedside clock that tells me what time to get  up and my doorbell --

All completely useless without Electricity.

I had to get to this dire situation  to see just how much I have been taking my electricity for granted and just how important it was.

Fortunately it is all now rectified but so is my attitude that 'Electricity is the Best Invention Since the Wheel!'

Certainly, makes you realise how much we have become so reliant on this source of energy. Just a small fact; back in 1705 Francis Hauksbee created electrical effects by putting some mercury into a glass globe, pumping out the air and then spinning it. When he did this in the dark, and then rubbed the globe with his bare hand, it glowed. (He didn't realise it, but he had invented the neon light!) Great share my friend... :-)
