The Loneliness of an Outpatient

The Loneliness of an Outpatient

A Story by Christine Peters

There is nothing more boring than a doctors waiting room.

Be at at your local surgery or even at the hospital.

No matter what time your appointment, you can always guarantee it will be thirty or even forty five minutes later.

So what do you do?

You can stare at the wall, try to read long-distance the many posters on the board, watch the television screen that is either health adverts or something else but with no sound.,

Or you can turn to a nearby patient in possibly the same boat as you and simply chat.

In my most dreaded recent experiences of having many doctors appointments, I have begun to find it quite interesting. The many people I have met, the tales we have exchanged and for the life of me, we will possibly never ever encounter again.

I've turned going to see the doctor as a great social event in which one may never ever otherwise experience. It simply begins by having a smile on your face and proudly saying 'Good Morning' as you join the very long queue.
